Bringing us ethereal, sexy, and unapologetically queer, Tony Pops new single “Fine” is what the future of pop sounds like!

Tony Pops is a queer artist based in Los Angeles. We last covered Tony where we reviewed his stunning music video for “Feeling Good (What Needs To Be Done).” Check that out here.

This time around, we are discussing how his new single “Fine,” an unapologetically queer and high energy pop song that is helping to define the sound and the future of the pop music landscape.
The song starts with the instrumental building up with a steady sub kick before we are blessed with Tony’s vocals. The chorus comes in, and we’re hooked. Everything about this track gives me high energy ethereal vibes, perfect for any night out on the town or a club.
After listening to this track on repeat, I can’t even count how many times this song gave me chills and took me to a different world. At one point, I was crying on my train ride home from work, no lie. I truly can’t get enough of this track.

I had the privilege of interviewing Tony, check it out below!
Who is Tony Pops?
Originally from Massachusetts, Tony Pops is a genre bending queer artist now based in Los Angeles.
What inspired you to make this song?
I am always trying to dig deeper and be more vulnerable with my music. Getting at whats real and truthful. I wanted to be unapologetically queer and and honest about living the fast life.

What does being unapologetically queer mean to you?
Fully being me. It took me a while to embrace my queer side for many reasons, but I’ve learned to enjoy the exploration of myself and what I like to do. I’m most fulfilled when there is truth in what I’m trying to express. It has to feel real. And for it to be real I need to be open and honest.
What was your favorite part about making this song?
My favorite part about making this song was experimenting with new things production-wise while recording it. I’m constantly trying to do things I haven’t done before and explore.

Where did you record this song, and what are the vibes like in the studio when you’re there?
I recorded this song in my apartment. The vibes in the studio are half late night sparkly inebriation, and daytime greek salad with pan fried chicken thighs, indica, and poolside sunlight.
Honestly- I’m always trying new things in the studio and pushing myself to experiment without putting up any walls or limitations.
What was the hardest part making this song?
Hardest part was me going back and forth in my head, should I say this shit? Nah- I should. In the end I’m happy I did.

Was this release cathartic for you?
It was cathartic for me definitely. It’s always rewarding when you live your truth. Especially in your art.
What do you think the future of pop music looks and sounds like?
I hope the future of pop music looks like an eclectic mix of genres like back when TRL was on television. Seeing artists like Britney Spears, Papa Roach, Aaliyah, Eminem, P.O.D., and Blink 182 all next to each other in the top 10. I think it will sound like a good blend of worlds, or at least I hope for that.

What keeps you motivated?
Life experiences keep me motivated. Surrounding myself with other creatives keep me motivated too. Always inspired by my friends. Helps keep us pushing the limits.
What can we expect next from you?
I’m going to keep releasing singles with music videos for now. Album and shows on the way.
What other artists are you listening to right now?
Right now I’m listening to old and new. Anything from Wings, Prince, James Brown, to Benny Sings, Caroline Polachek, Parcels, and Amaarae.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer those questions for us, Tony!
