Indie Artist Spotlight: The Kyd

Recently I posted about the hip-hop scene in Canada, here’s another Canadian Artist you shouldn’t sleep on!

The Kyd has been featured on the blog before, but I wanted to take a minute to shoutout a few of his releases.

The Kyd’s latest release, “New Orleans” has a super catchy beat and will draw you in immediately. I love the upbeat energy and the horn lines. The Kyd’s flow is very impressive in this track, and Misfit James is the perfect addition. This is a must add to your Spotify playlists! Stream it here.

“Back To The Essence” has a classic hip-hop layout with old school vibes and high-quality production is high-quality. I appreciate how the sample is mixed clearly into the beat. I think the verses are great and The Kyd’s vocals are blended well between the ad-libs and the lead. Check it out on Spotify.

The deep 808 bass of “Sedgwick Avenue” complements the bright guitar elements perfectly. I like how crunchy the snare sounds, compared to the contrast of the xylophone in the background. This song is super unique and The Kyd does a great job telling the story. I love the storytelling elements with grungy hip-hop beats and a jazzy twist. Listen on Spotify.
