Micah Woods has shifted genres a little bit since his last release and what he has done feels and sounds so right. Woods cleverly combines a throwback pop sound with elements of country-Americana music on his newest single “Chasing Boys.” The song, that normalizes his LGBT-identity, starts off with country style guitars. When Micah’s smooth voice hits, the song feels more pop than country for a moment. By the end of chorus, the track has already reminded us of Michael Jackson and Troye Sivan with a unique twist of Americana. The twangy guitar parts in the song add authentic elements that allow “Chasing Boys” to really stand out from the rest of what’s current in today’s music industry, setting Micah Woods apart from the pack.
The song was recently covered in Rolling Stone in their “10 Best Country, Americana Songs of the Week” article! Micah’s last two releases “Love Like That” and “Chasing Boys” makes us very excited to hear what is next to come from this rising star. This Brooklyn based singer-songwriter is surely going places.
