“Darling” from Indianapolis-based band Small Words is a charming song with drums that just make you want to rock out and dance around. It starts soft, but quickly builds to a raw intensity that eventually overlaps and creates that sense of “anxiety that makes me ill,” but in a good way. This song taps into feelings that few other songs even manage to reach. The acoustic version simplifies the sound and allows you to really hear the lead vocalist and feel the same emotion they’re feeling. The lyrics explore a budding relationship on a drunken night and a need for escape. They’re emotional, relatable, and genuine.
