The Matter of China’s ‘Black Heart’ is traditionally melodic metalcore from Germany. Although they don’t stray terribly far from the traditional bounds of their self-proclaimed genre, they do bring some cool things to the table. They start off with pretty basic Killswitch-style chugging, but towards the middle of the song they go into a short, clearly black metal-oriented dirge. This feeds into a slow clean verse, which is definitely a highlight of the piece. The way the masculine, folky vocals harmonize with the traditional hardcore screams is on point. It should also be noted that this is a really tight piece of work – in regard to both the musicianship and the production. This is a solid track from a quality band. Check out ‘Black Heart’ below!
