Darksoft’s ‘Mydoom’ Is Slow, Straightforward and Sad Alt Rock

10 23 18 DarksoftDarksoft’s ‘Mydoom’ is patient, glum alternative rock with a slow, vibe-oriented outlook. “Evoking a nostalgia for two-thousands sadcore,” the group describes itself as utilizing, “an Elliot Smith and Bright Eyes vocal style, crunch guitar like Staryflyer 59 and an overall garagey sound reminiscent of nineties shoegaze.” They say they find “inspiration in the encrypted, hidden motives that infect modern society, love and communication.” This group does a great job of instilling a sense of despair in the listener without resorting to melodrama or outlandish effects. The restrained, straightforward nature of the track furthers that sentiment while adding a more complex, relatable layer of depression to their sound. This is an enveloping song from a talented band.
