No Publicist Working for You? Here’s Some Tips on Submitting Your Music to Indie Blogs!

SUBMITHUB TIPS FOR ARTISTS & BANDS FROM A SUBMITHUB BLOGGER

  • Fill out your artist profile completely.
    – Make sure you have album cover artwork uploaded and displaying.
    – Tell us about the song! What inspired it? Have a quote about the inspiration or songwriting process? Share it!
    – Make sure an artist biography is on there. Tell us about your act! Get personal. Share stories. Share quotes. What inspired the song that you are submitting?
    – Add where you are located/based. City, State, Country. If that’s not where you are from, where are you originally from?
    – List at least some of your accomplishments.
    – Add the things that makes your act stand out. Where have you played? What big festivals have you been on the line-up of? Have you won awards? How many monthly listeners do you have on Spotify? Has your music video reached a million people? Have you toured with someone special? Do you support any social causes? Have you participated in fundraisers? Etc…
    – What other artists inspire you? Local artists? Mainstream artists?
    – What’s coming up for your act? Shows? Music Releases? Radio interviews? A Tour?
    – Link all of your social media sites. Link your website. Let us and readers know where to go to find out more about your act.
    – Have you been featured in mainstream music publications? Let us know!
    – Please add your genres and artists that you think you sound like too!fashion-art-coffee-macbook-pro-57690.jpg
  •  Add lots of photos that are downloadable through the Submithub platform.
    – Not many people want to click a weird, unknown link and be taken to an outside website to download your assets (Virus alert!). Keep your photos on Submithub. Bloggers (at least me and the ones I know) trust downloading directly from the platform.
    – Have at least 3-5 different photos (preferably from different photo shoots) on there that blogs can choose from. This way, if you are approved by more than one blog, maybe the two posts will have different featured images! It adds excitement for readers! You’ll probably get more people to read about you too…
    – Action photos are AWESOME! Let’s see you on stage!!
    – Add photo credit for your photographer for each photo! You can change the file name, before uploading to the platform, to your band/artist name and the photographers name. It makes it easier for everyone! Just like you deserve credit for your songwriting and performance, photographers deserve credit for their photos!photo-of-man-playing-guitar-3536236.jpg
  • If you are submitting a cover song tell us why your version stands out from the original. Also, share why you chose to cover this song. Does it have a special meaning for you? Please, please, please make sure you tell us who it is a cover of. Credit the original artist/songwriter.
  • Use the short pitch to tell us a little bit about the song. What’s the meaning? Why is it important that we post? Does your band support a specific social cause? Does your band try to spread a certain message? You have a sentence to make your group stand out! Some bloggers may not even read your biography until approving your song. This pitch is important to having the blogger form a deeper connection to the song.
  • Submit your track to bloggers before the song comes out. The more lead time that you give, the more time the blog has to listen to your song and get to know it more before writing the article.
    – That being said, I personally prefer to hear songs that haven’t come out or have been released in the last couple months than a song that came out years ago.
    – Submit your best, most recent song! Keep it current.
    – I personally love to add the song to a Spotify playlist and listen to it several times in my car or on loud speakers before writing a blog post article.
  • Upload your entire song. Some artists/bands are uploading just a 30 second snippet of their song. As a blogger, I usually like to listen to way longer than 30 seconds to get an accurate feel of the song. Upload the entire song! We actually do want to hear more…well, at least I do.
  • Personally, I find that I’m able to write longer articles about the song and artist if the biography is filled out completely. If another song is mentioned in the biography as being popular, I sometimes check out that song and want to write about that as well in the same article. I like to add as much detail about the artist as possible to the article. This keeps it interesting for the readers and makes it more likely that they will give your music a listen. When the profile is completely filled out via Submithub, it’s much easier to write a longer article that more readers will connect with!

  • I have also found that adding artist quotes to the articles gets them more views and readers form a deeper connection with the artist. If I don’t see a quote about the song from the artist/songwriter in the biography then I will usually ask for one. It’s special to hear a little more about the song and what it means specifically to the artist…give readers that gift…
  • Follow the blogs that you want to be featured in on social media. Read them too. Get on their radar. Form a connection. The music industry is hard enough to break into. We can all get a little further if we all help each other out.
  • If a blog features you, share it on your social media. Tag the blog! We are more likely to want to work with someone for a second time if we see them sharing the articles that we send so much time writing!
  • If you see a blog on Submithub, you probably should not try to submit to them via social media or email. Submithub helps bloggers stay organized and post in a timely matter and it also helps bloggers earn a tiny bit of money for their hard work!
  • We also would like to mention that we have used Submithub as bloggers and also as artists. It’s 100% worth it from both sides.
  • MORE TIPS ARE COMING SOON. WE WILL CONTINUALLY KEEP UPDATING THIS SPECIFIC ARTICLE! THANKS FOR READING! THANKS FOR SUPPORTING INDIE MUSIC AND INDIE MUSIC PUBLICATIONS!
