‘Way’ by Time Thieves Is Melancholy, Genre-Bending Power Pop

12 3 18 Time Thieves‘Way’ by Time Thieves is bruising, heavy power pop with a defiant, slow-rolling sense of hopelessness. These guys are completely unafraid of letting their instrumentation, effects and emotion ring out. The overpowering, bass-heavy nature of the track belies an underlying sweetness peppered throughout the track in the form of campy, haunting synths and the occasional optimistic guitar solo. Clearly, these guys are taking a lot of cues from Weezer – especially their cult classic Pinkerton. On this track, the band does a clutch job of playing with and challenging genre conventions without giving up or satirizing their sound of choice. That’s far from an easy task. This is some solid work from a neat band. Check out ‘Way’ below!
