Alex Runo Delivers Soulful, Bluesy, Dark Anthem “Devil”

Soulful, fierce, powerful. These words accurately describe Swedish artist Alex Runo’s newest song “Devil.” Elements of gospel, soul, blues, and rock could be heard in this production. The song has a dark topic, seeming to be about demonic possession and the music accentuates that dark tale. The vocal is raw for the most part, but sometimes a vocoder is used to make the vocals sound deeper and more “devil-like.” Overall, the song follows a soulful and bluesy style melody, that is captivating while feeling nostalgic. The background vocals are just as contagious as the lead, and add a gospel choir element to the song, creating an even more musically powerful anthem. Lyrics go: “Wash me clean and baptize me…The devil got inside me.”

“Devil” means a lot to me. It’s my raw, naked testament about giving in but not giving up. I live and breathe music, always have. I write music that I hope makes you feel something, whatever that feeling might be. The element of surprise is also an important part of my music. I’m not comfortable in the middle of the road…

I was brought up with the (in my opinion) greatest singers, songwriters and musicians in the world. Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye and Otis Redding are a few of the artists from whom I draw my inspiration.

 Peace!”  – Alex Runo
